detached the main elements of the first floor rooms from the party wall, allowing light to enter from all sides of the residence. A secondary measure was the introduction of several skylights, thereby allowing natural light in to illuminate the greenery within. These plants give the interior a refreshing, outdoor-like feel. An infinity koi pond was also added to the back garden, creating a tranquil area for contemplation. When the folding doors are left open, the house’s inner space merges with the yard into one seamless area. Contemporary Home With an Unconventional Layout: Sea Shell Residence

Description from the architects :

Openness is the main concept that led us in this project, combining informal ambient and yet sheer elegance. We choose a palette of colors that repeats the colors of the outside into the house. The unconventional layout of the kitchen & the dining area came to our thoughts when designing this space, thinking how friendly it will be to enjoy entertaining family & guests, being able to host and to be present at the same time. The ground floor wrapped in large apertures maintaining a dialog with the outside. Obtaining the open space feeling. The lighting in the house designed by Lanciano-Design has many scenarios, for special effects to be able to change completely the ambient in the house“.

Geometric XV House Overlooking The Polish Wawel Hill

This is all about Geometric XV House Overlooking The Polish Wawel Hill. There is an interesting architectural element that stands behind the XV House‘s name. The interior cantilever stairs are based on a reinforced concrete beam, that shapes a distinctive xv sign with the double pillar. Architects from the Polish firm RS + Robert Skitek created the stunning contemporary residence as a response to the carefully chosen site, surrounding views and modern style required. The reduced usage of colors in the facade led to the creation of a uniform design, accentuated by dark elements – the windows and shutters, subtle roof line and vertical set of windows. Starting from the basement, where the garage and technical room share space with the guest rooms, the floor plan changes into the largest possible opening of the space, divided into social and private spaces culminating with a multipurpose space with soothing views located on the top floor.

Description from the architects :

”Cutouts in the mountain give space for the outdoor seating areas. The second floor is suspended above the entrance floor to shadow and protect the yard. Here the infinity pool, made out of dark concrete, makes you think of a deep forest lake adding to qualities of a wilderness where the water runs over the pool edge. The facade of the souterrain is made out of slate and the stair from the carport out of limestone. Grass covers the roof of the tallest volume and the roof terrace where it is themed with spruce. The house interior also exhibits materials that are close to nature such as walnut, ceramic granite and marble”.

Description from the architects :

the sheltered car park serves as a physical extension of the road, drawing in visual focus through a contrasting stark-white finish. a glass partition draws a thin line between the indoor-outdoor boundary, allowing the parked automobiles to be on view from within the house. Pivoting around a central courtyard, the layout is organized in a spiral with varying degrees of privacy throughout. From the entrance, programs such as the bedroom and bathroom are nestled in behind the courtyard, while the kitchen and living area open up around the garage. Corners of the rectangular layout is shaved off to further establish a sense of motion in the circulation. A small loft area over the kitchen serves as a multi-functional platform with a view“.

Weekend Retreat Disclosing Smart Design Ideas The Robins Way Residence

This is all about Weekend Retreat Disclosing Smart Design Ideas: The Robins Way Residence. The Robins Way Residence was designed by studio Bates Masi Architects and is an inspiring modern residence located in Amagasett, New York, USA. The project consisted of a complete renovation and addition of a 1960’s kit house, in order to serve as a week-end retreat for the owners, a DJ and an interior designer. The design solution found by the project team was to reduce the existing structures to their skeletal framework and creatively improvise from that point. I particularly enjoy the rope ceilings.

Weekend Retreat Disclosing Smart Design Ideas The Robins Way Residence

Description from the architects :

“Unifying the exterior is a dark stained cedar siding that wraps all of the exterior facades and transitions to the matching frames of the replaced windows and doors. The newly constructed interior walls and interior cabinetry were also resurfaced in reclaimed barn wood. Behind a sheet of glass, the same reclaimed wood lines the shower surround and one feels as though they are showering outdoors. The clients now have a quiet escape from city life. The frequent turnover within a vacation community can be wasteful. Some are eager to tear down what exists and start new. This project preserved the skeleton of the house and the history in the patinaed materials that the client desired. Conventional materials were utilized in new ways to unify the old and the new”.
